Moving Up

Excuse me, ma'am, you want us to put it

The theme for this week's Saturday Nite Special at Funky Junk Interiors is
repurposed furniture, and here's my entry.

It started out as your basic mass produced buffet from, I don't know, the 40's?  It was passed around our family until it landed in the basement of our previous house where it held art supplies and games.  About 10 years ago, I painted it white and added bin pulls to match our kitchen hardware.

Purchased from Van Dyke's Restorers.

We then moved the buffet upstairs to our walk-in pantry to house canned goods, kitchen linens, and small kitchen appliances.  I removed a 70's faux wood shelving system from the wall above it and replaced the shelving with this top from an old kitchen cupboard.

When I bought this cupboard, it was already stripped of its original finish
and missing its glass door inserts and hardware.

I made leaded glass panels with textured glass to hide the contents of the cupboard
and added a new latch, also from Van Dyke's.

When we moved to our current home, there wasn't a spot for this piece on the main floor,
but I really didn't want to get rid of it.  So when the movers asked where to put it,
I told them to bring it upstairs to the master bedroom.

Most of my clocks fit on this shelf.

Forgotten treasures fill the small drawers.

There's room for 2 lamps on top......

and plenty of storage space for clothes and extra bedding.

There's even a place of honor way up high for you-know-who.

So there you have it.  My dining room buffet and kitchen cupboard
repurposed to the master bedroom.

*Do you remember the snow day I was hoping for this winter?
I got my wish today.

Spring in northern Minnesota.  Gotta love it!

  1. Oooh, I really like your buffet cabinet! Love how you mixed and matched, tying everything together with the white paint. Very chic! And your wonderful clock collection looks perfect on the little shelf.
    Mary Alice

  2. I love it! And you MADE the glass panels? You have so many talents!
Those clocks look right at home there. :)

  3. How lovely! :) {except for the snow! icky! do you really have a snow day? nice!}

  4. I love furniture in unexpected places! Like armoires in the bathroom or a persian rug and chandy in a garden house. It looks awesome there, love your clock collection and your pretty lady up on top! Your beautiful wall color really looks good with it too, makes it pop.

  5. I never would have thought of it in the bedroom, but with your girl on the top and enough clocks to wake you up (you must be a hard sleeper), it works in there. I had to double-check the date of your post, I thought maybe you had reposted something from two months ago. Snow???

  6. your furniture piece looks smashing! and that is the perfect shelf to display your cute clocks! now lets talk about your snow day?? holy cow, i can not even imagine snow right now...we have leaves on all the trees and flowers everywhere.
    happy new week to you,

  12. I have that white stuff outside today too, Vickie, but I don't have that great white buffet cabinet you have. I love it! I also want to start a clock collection!

  13. Oh my gosh, Vickie- what a winter wonderland! It's so hot here already.
I love your clocks. I am constantly moving furniture around the house- this piece works beautifully in your bedroom.

  14. Oh my, what lovely lamp posts you have beyond the snow!! We just had snow and wind for two days, but the sun is out and it is gone, gone, gone! Got to love that spring snow.

  15. Vickie,
That totally works in your master suite.I would not be able to part with that either.

  16. I haven't been at your blog long but, did you say you made the glass inserts? Wow! That's a great looking piece I think it's the glass that makes it work so well.

  17. Oh you have got to be kidding, snow now? It's been in the 80's here. We had a cold front today, and it was in the 70's!! You must live near Lake Wobegon.

  18. Vickie,
Don't ya just love furniture you can use anywhere! Love both pieces together, your leaded glass makes it! Is there anything you can't do??? You even made it snow!
