As is our tradition, the "big" people in our family purchased an inexpensive gift
for the dice game we play on Christmas Eve after the "little" people go to sleep.
In the past I've been known to spend a tad more than the allotted amount of $20 or less,
but this year I wrapped up a thrifted find that was actually under budget!

You've got to toss doubles, sevens, or elevens to choose your prize. After each person
has a prize, we unwrap our gifts. Then we set a timer for 5 minutes and pass the dice around
again. If you toss doubles, sevens, or elevens, you may exchange your gift for another.
It's always fun to see the prizes family members bring.

Do you remember the old screen I bought for $3 way back
in the spring of 2012 at the Tavern estate sale? I'm sure you do. :)
I cleaned it up and ordered 2 sets of magnetic letters and numbers online for $3.99 each
plus shipping, so the grand total of my gift was only around $15!

I got the idea for my gift when I saw the magnet screen (below)
that Debi at Real Simple Style repurposed for her grandchildren's room.

So cute! Check out more of Debi's farmhouse style here.
The winner didn't have room in their car for the prize, so we'll deliver it
the next time we visit. Until then, I'm having some fun with it myself!

You come up with the best ideas, Vickie...are you sure you aren't going to keep it for yourself? I would!
ReplyDeleteThe game sounds fun. I might do a version of it for NY's Eve.
Alcohol free Gloog? I need to get to Ikea and get some of that for my FIL.
We didn't make gloog for the boozehound this year and he's Swedish and a stinker if he doesn't get it! LOL
Happy New Year to you and stay warm. :)

ReplyDeleteVicki sounds like you had a fun Christmas! The dice games sounds like a lot of fun! We have played similar games at Christmas parties...but that is a another new way to play it...so maybe I'll have to do it that way next year!I I would have never thought about using a screen that way...what a great idea!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a Happy New Year!!
Sharon
What a cute gift! Love it!! Your traditions sound like so much fun!! Oh and the wine is perfect!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
What a cute idea. I have some old screens I might try this on. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHi Vickie, What a fun idea for the adults and I love the gift you put together. We have played a similar game, but not with the dice. I love those letter and number magnets.
ReplyDeleteI just got back from RA's The Prairie and will share a post soon.
Wishing you a wonderful new year!!
Hugs
Oh that is so cute! I love the screen and letters. I'm sure the person that won it will like it too.
ReplyDeleteI would have never thought to put magnetic numbers on a screen. That is too cute!
ReplyDeleteWe had a similar gift exchange this year at my niece's house (diceless though) and I brought a toilet paper holder that stands on the floor. It was an alligator. Who does not want an alligator standing on their bathroom floor holding toilet paper between his hands/paws???
Well, congrats on coming in under budget and for getting extra points on style!! This would be so cute in any of your homes!! Love the Glogg and the sweet glasses for serving. I hope the hostess got a little rest while leftovers were on the menu and that she is feeling much better. I'm ready to screen your fabulous new ideas for 2014!! Keep 'em coming! :)
ReplyDeleteLove that idea. We had a similar gist exchange and it's so much fun. Hope you have a Happy New Year too.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds so fun. I not only enjoy your photos and have fun ...but always learn lots of vocabulary from your posts and love it too!

Judy
Looks like a great time Vickie. Happy and healthy New Year to you and your family!!!!
ReplyDeleteCynthia
I was surprised with all the "similar game but no dice" comments. Hmmmm. I am intrigued.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to play with it!!!! (P.S. STILL have your 2 glass serving platters! Whoops.) (And we were giggling when Mack was leaving the message. Hehe)
What a clever idea to use magnetic screen.
ReplyDeleteI have an old screen that I am going to test to see if it is magnetic.
Have a wonderful 2014!
That sounds like a great game, and whoever won your gift was very lucky, what a great idea.
ReplyDeleteAll the very best for 2014 Vickie x
Vickie, we play a similar game now and then. Only we wrap candy bars and if they get double they have to put on gloves and a hat and try and unwrap them before the next person gets doubles. It's especially fun because they are wrapped numerous times. I like the idea of a gift. Think I will do that next year. I love the cute magnet board! Hope your New Year started off with a bang!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
What a fun idea. We do the traditional exchange with numbers but this sounds like so much fun.
ReplyDeleteHi Vickie. . . that game looks like so much fun. A new twist on the old white elephant game.
ReplyDeleteI want to say a great BIG thank you for mentioning my blog in this post. I thin I even got some new lookers. . . thanks to you. . .
I'm a new follower and look forward to seeing more from you. . . d
