Autumn Welcome

I'm ready to say goodbye to watering flowers and hello to...

........the low maintenance variety.

I bought this book a few weeks ago and found a similar arrangement pictured inside.

When I look at the magazines I've saved from years past,
a large number of them are autumn issues,
and this book will no doubt join them in the cupboard when winter rolls around.

The hanging basket was a birthday gift from a friend just waiting to be filled.
So, I went out to my cutting garden (JoAnn Fabrics) and found some
fresh berries and flowers to tuck inside.  :@

I tied it on a piece of rope to center the basket on the door
and voila!  Three hours later (yes, that's how long it took me to get it right)
I've got a new autumn welcome basket on my door.

Have a great Labor Day weekend!

  1. Vickie,
I am sick of watering too.But if I don't continue to water I won't have flowers next season.I have a tree that is not looking good either :-(
Your basket looks great on your door.Perfect flowers with no watering required :-) .Those baskets are fun to change out too for different seasons!Have a great weekend!

  2. Three hours well spent I say! Love the basket and your door is the perfect backdrop. We planted Chinese Lanterns this year but I'm afraid the black-eyed susan jungle smothered them. Perhaps if I peek in there we may have some yummy orange lanterns. That I have to water.

Gorgeous transition from summer to early fall! :)

  6. Ha! That's funny, Vickie- I need to get out to my cutting garden, too!
It's still 100 degrees here so I feel odd having the need to get out the fall things, but I will anyway. ;)

  7. Great basket. I have never grown Chinese lanterns but my neighbor did. They are great in an autumn bouquet or basket.

  9. That's really pretty - I'm still working on the inside of the house, the garden will be next year !

  10. That is lovely! I love that basket and it looks very nice on your door. I almost just completely stop watering in the summer because it's just too hot to go outside. Plus, it's too hot for most flowers to survive anyway. I'll replant in October and things will be lovely again from then until June. It's worth it but some low maintenance would be nice, too. Fran

  21. I like how you call Joanne's your "cutting garden". ha! Mine is from my basement or Hobby Lobby usually. I think your basket looks beautiful. I have that same magazine and it is full of wonderful Fall inspiration.

  22. Beautiful basket arrangement! I love it. Unbeknownst to me I had some of that kind of vine growing in my front flower bed. It was all over grown with weeds and I went to town yankin' 'em out and too late I realized I had pulled up something good. : ( Oh well.

Thanks for stopping by The Cozy Old Farmhouse and commenting on my fun Friday finds.

  23. That is SO pretty, Vickie! My living room has a big basket of Chinese Lanterns courtesy of JoAnn's, too! They are such nice quality! Although at the lake, we have a large patch of them that are orange and I'll pick them soon!
