Get the lead out.

Between coats of paint, I've been doing a little spring cleaning
and trying to lighten things up in the living room.

I haven't got a green thumb when it comes to keeping houseplants alive,
but this African Violet has been around for 15 or 20 years.  :o)
(Psssst.  It's not real.)

Do you remember this lead glass window I found last summer?
I didn't like the way it blocked the view to the back yard,
so I packed it away until I found a spot to hang it.

Insert theme song from Jaws here.......
If ever I had any doubts about painting the walls and trim in this room,
all I have to do is look at this photo.
Dark and gloomy.

This window is heavy, but it sure lightens up this corner of the room!

I have no idea why the loveseat looks electric blue in this shot,
but you get the idea.  I found the picnic basket for $2.99 at the thrift shop (great deal),
but I had to replace the vintage blue & white plate I broke whilst rearranging
with another in my stash.  I'm not even going to tell you about my paint spill in the kitchen.
You win some, you lose some.

By the way, the paint color this indecisive painter chose for the kitchen cabinets is.......
Timid White.  How funny is that?
I think they named the color just for me, and I hope Benny gives me a deal because
I'll be buying one more quart today.
Cha ching!

For Rita.

Enjoy the sunshine and thanks for visiting!

  2. I love this corner with your beautiful leaded window. There is so much fun energy in the swirls, chevrons, and dots; perfect for spring. I'm lucky if I can keep a houseplant alive for one season! That violet surely loves you.

  4. I like where you moved the leaded window. Don't know if you have an Ace Hardware, but ours here is having a big sale on anything paint related. I KNOW about your paint spill. And please forgive me for saying that I was glad it was you and not me!

  10. Wow, what a difference that rooms looks now with the walls and trim painted a shade of white. And the leaded window hung on the wall - nice! I love the blues & whites together with the pops of red. Show us another photo from the same distance as the prior look in a future post, pretty please?

  15. Your leaded glass window is just gorgeous!! Love the cute bench holding the African violet. Btw, I had to laugh when you said you broke a plate...I'm always breaking things when I move stuff around because I don't take the time to take things off that might break. :-)

  19. I don't know how bad the damage was in your kitchen, but if it makes you feel any better about spilling paint.... one time I dropped an entire gallon of white paint onto my dark wood floor and it went all over the beige walls, the front door, the living room and my office (both had carpet), two houses ago. Good times lol

    The room looks great! :)

  21. Love where you hung it....it really lightens up the room. Sounds like you have been a busy little bee. Last time I chose paint...I picked 'Undecided'....and that is how I felt!

  26. I have to disagree with you.... If you kept an African violet alive for over 15 years you do too have a great thumb. Or at least a purple one.

  27. Vickie, I really like where you hung the window. I love the name of the paint Timid White.

  31. I'm so glad you found a white for your kitchen that you're happy with, and the name just made me laugh out loud.
I love the bright fresh look of your living room and the window looks perfect there above the loveseat. I broke something when I was styling the bathroom, annoying isn't it. I guess we're sometimes too eager to create the perfect vignette !

  32. Looks so charming. The window is lovely, very sculptural. Glad you found a paint color. I read your post about all the white choices, but I don't think I commented that day (things have been hectic here).

  37. Hello Vickie!! Ohh...I miss so much commenting on your blog but I'm in a kind of crisis with the blog lately, I do not find time for everything I want to do (and what I must do) and I'm not sure about how to organize my real and my virtual life... I've been always spying blogs that I love like yours but sometimes without leaving comments.
It's always a pleasure to come by and visit you, I love to see your house. You have exquisite taste and that window looks great there. I identify completely with your definition as indecisive person and laughed a lot with that paint color's name :)
    A big hug!!

  38. I'm rather envious of your trim! Our living/dining room is more like your before, but hubby loves the original stained trim, so it stays. He's extremely easy going about any other design choices I make, so I'm not going to argue!

  42. SUCH a great choice to paint it all out white. I'm doing the same thing at my house. I don't have great old moulding like you do, but I'm painting everything I can get to anyway. Love the light, bright, airy feel!! And that old window is fantastic. Love your home! ~Angela~
